Look at the actual measurement charts for proper sizing. This was the only mermaid skirt that fit me. I had to order a 4x. But I normally wear xl or 1x.

That's fit in Me. It supposed to be large size but I decided to take medium size because it's stretchy. One size down. I love it. It's for event to celebrate black history month .

This skirt runs large. If you take a medium order a small. I wish they made x-small. Not the highest quality of skirt but the style is very cool.

This was a little shorter on me than I'd wanted, but otherwise it was great! Its unlined and has that faux leather finish on one side, so be aware. I wouldn't imagine you would want to wear this in regular occasions because of the fabric. It's stretchy though and it suited my needs just fine.
